Photo-Venture June 21 & 22, 2013: Newburgh Illuminated Festival

This weekend marked my one year anniversary in Newburgh. I couldn’t picture doing anything else but photographing the city. The weekend was a special one because it celebrated light. The celebration brought history, art and music into the areas of Newburgh that typical residents don’t expect. While I was out photographing on the 21st, many people walked up to me and asked “Hey, what are those light bulbs?” My reply was always the same, “Its the festival of lights celebrating Thomas Edison’s power plant that Newburgh was the second city to be electrified” (the  first being NYC). Some understood what i was saying, while others could care less. I couldn’t photograph all day where I had a prior commitment, but I did photograph Friday afternoon and Saturday morning in Downing Park. Friday’s photos include lower Broadway and Saturday’s include a memorial of a stabbing that happened a few weeks before, Downing Park and a house that caught my attention while walking home.
